Among Friends is contemporary chamber music for horn quartet. The music is gentle and conversational. You might imagine a gathering of like-minded people who enjoy a friendly discussion. There are debates and repartee, clever quips and eloquent reflections. The music culminates in a deeply felt accord as all the musicians play a unison melody.

The tessitura of horn 1 is a little high, but still comfortable. Esprit de Cor, for whom I made the adaptation, performed Among Friends as an octet, doubling the parts. The horn version is an adaptation of the original version for trumpet, 2 horns, and euphonium or trombone.
